A Day at Apogee St. Pete

We've built a school day around how kids actually learn best: through conversation, hands-on projects, movement, and play. No standardized tests. No rigid lectures. Every child moves at their own pace in a student-driven community where curiosity leads the way.

What a Typical Day Looks Like

Times are approximate and may shift slightly based on the day's flow.

9:00
10:15 AM

Morning Launch

How we start the day matters. Students begin with a gratitude journal, the Pledge of Allegiance, and a quick fitness or movement warm-up. From there, the group moves into calendar skills (learning to tell time, days of the week, dates), a 50 States song, and a group conversation where kids ask questions, explore ideas, and practice thinking out loud. This block sets the tone for everything that follows.

10:15
10:30 AM

Breakfast Snack

A quick break to refuel before academics.

10:30
12:00 PM

Academics

30 minutes each of reading, writing, and math. Students work at their own level using hands-on manipulatives and mastery-based progression. No worksheets for the sake of worksheets. The goal is real understanding, not rote memorization.

12:00
1:15 PM

Lunch + Free Play

Lunch followed by unstructured outdoor play, recess, and free exploration. This is where friendships form and kids decompress before the afternoon.

1:15
3:00 PM

Project-Based Learning + Reading

The heart of the Apogee experience. Students work on hands-on projects driven by their interests, guided by coaches who connect those interests to real-world skills and academic principles. The day wraps with choral or silent reading time before pickup at 3:00 PM.

What We Believe About Education

These beliefs shape every decision we make at Apogee, from how we structure the day to how we measure progress.

01

Passion powers learning.

When kids are genuinely interested in something, they become unstoppable learners.

02

The family should be at the center of a child's learning journey.

If parents are not cultivating a love of learning at home, a school isn't going to do it for them.

03

Children are naturally curious, and can be largely self-taught.

With a little help from a coach.

04

Financial literacy should be learned from a young age.

Every person is capable of running their own business, and they will if they go to Apogee St. Pete.

05

Holistic, physical health is a core part of one's educational journey.

Movement, fitness, and physical discipline are woven into every single day at Apogee.

Common Questions About a Day at Apogee

The questions parents ask most often, answered.

Students arrive at 9:00 AM and the day wraps up at 3:00 PM. We meet Monday through Thursday, with Fridays always off.
The day is split into three main blocks. The morning starts with a group conversation, gratitude journaling, fitness, and calendar skills. Mid-morning is focused academics (reading, writing, math). The afternoon is dedicated to project-based learning driven by student interests, plus outdoor free play and reading time.
Our school year runs from mid-August through mid-May. We observe all federal holidays and have breaks for Thanksgiving, winter, and spring. Fridays are always off, and families choose their own 2, 3, or 4-day schedule within Monday through Thursday.
We use a competency-based mastery system. Instead of letter grades and standardized tests, we track each student's growth across key skill areas. Students progress when they've demonstrated real understanding, not just test performance. Parents receive regular updates on their child's development.
